Twenty-year-old Clementine Avery doesn't mind being called bitchy and closed off. It's safe, and after being burned by her high school sweetheart and stalked by a professor her freshman year of college, safe sounds pretty damn good.
Her number one rule for survival? No dating. That is until she accidentally signs up for a romance writing class and needs material for her latest assignment. Sexy RA Gavin Murphy is more than happy to play the part of book boyfriend to help Clem find some inspiration, even if that means making out...in the name of research, of course.
As Gavin and Clem grow closer, they get entangled in the mystery surrounding a missing Boston University student, and Clem unwittingly becomes a possible target. Gavin tries to show Clem she can handle falling in love again, but she knows she has to be careful because her heart’s at stake…and maybe even her life.
Review
Clementine is used to being called bitchy and even encourages it to protect herself. She has been through a lot with her high school boyfriend cheating with her best friend and being stalked by one of her professors her freshman year of college. On top of all that, her parents are billionaires and don't support her because she refused to be her mother's puppet.
Clem accidentally signs up for a romance writing class and needs help finding inspiration for her story. Gavin is an RA who also happens to play guitar for Clem's friend's band. He doesn't buy into Clem's bitchiness and convinces her to hang out with him "as friends". While studying, Gavin offers to be Clem's book boyfriend and helps her find the inspiration she has been looking for. Will Clem be able to open herself up?
I love Lex Martin's style of writing. It makes the story more real since she writes like she talks. The characters are extremely relatable and I definitely want to introduce my friends to the game "Out Skank" that Clem and her friends play.
There is a little bit of suspense in this novel with the professor that stalked Clem being back on campus and a girl that went missing over the summer that Gavin is writing articles about for the school newspaper. I don't read much romantic suspense but I loved that aspect of this novel.
If you read Dearest Clementine be prepared to love it so much that you will want to read the other two books in the Dearest series immediately after.
